about

From the very first Lost Tribe Records release (label head – Ambassadeurs’ own M.O.P.E EP) through to the current label output some twenty releases on, the label’s goal has always been to support and give a platform to forward-thinking electronic music of all genres.

‘Encounters’ is the debut compilation from the imprint, including highlights from the catalogue as well as exclusive tracks from the artist roster.

The only way to start is with label head - Ambassadeurs and his track ‘My World’ appropriately introduces the collection. featuring subtly shifting synth chords and a stirring vocal refrain over a laid back skipping beat it’s exactly what this man does best: crystal-clear, shimmering electronica.

Chicago based production duo Tsaik showcase why they’ve won support from BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra with their first of two tracks on this release – ‘Hera’. Imaginative productions comprised of an impressive array of found sounds, affected instruments and beats a la Flying Lotus

Dutch producer Moods is making a quite a name for himself with his genre spanning, groove -laden solo work and here he steps in to inject a mellow disco feel to Ambassadeurs ethereal tune – ‘Looking At You (feat. C Duncan)’. It’s a refreshing rejig that adds a totally different edge to the track and demonstrates the scope of the source material. Ambassadeurs and disco were probably two words you never thought would be put together but trust us it works!

[crack] were one of the first signings to Lost Tribe and this juke inspired track – Hoops taken from their ‘Snapped‘ EP is an great example of exactly why. Rhythmically diverse beats and intelligently layered samples make up this infectious track.

One of the latest artists to join the label family is Dutch producer Malvae who opened up his account with the track ‘Haunts Me’. An atmospheric and appropriately haunting track where the producer not only creates a unique arrangement but also displays a black sense of humour when making use of vocalist – Esther Veen’s cough in addition to her more deliberate sounds…

Cybass remixes Ambassadeurs armed with his usual electronic arsenal of low slung beats, sub bass, computer effects samples and ‘Can’t You See’ has never sounded like this before. Warped into a mutated and brooding version of what it once was the track is transformed with the bass in charge.

Atlas was the debut EP from Italian producer Fraems - a beautiful fusion of dance beats and snaps set against frequently reverb soaked analog synths to create rich sonic tapestries. Brighton based AOTOA reworks ‘Foreverism’ brilliantly sounding something like if S U R V I V E played UK garage.

Mixmag favourite - Lindo Man takes us on another twinkling journey into his manor with the exclusive track ‘Valor’. Presenting his production hallmarks of soulful vocal cuts and a shimmering top end over deep bass roots it’s a must listen track of tasteful dance music.

‘Beneath’ was arguably the pick of Fraems’ EP with its memorable bass and driving beats perfectly accompanied by a video of various landscape flyovers. This version sees Ambassadeurs deliver a mix that pays the upmost respect to the original whilst offering his own spin on the tune.

Brazilian Bass music king - Cybass has a knack for creating low-end behemoths and this EP title track - ‘Altered Carbon’ is a prime specimen. An off kilter collage of electronica synths, dancehall vocals and a hulking bass and 808 foundation.

Next up is another exclusive track from Netherlands-based Nuaru. The previously unreleased ‘Mango Dream’ is an upbeat and energetic blend of bass music and electronica that is ripe for the dancefloor. The groove is punctuated expertly by occasional found sounds and samples to remind you of his home-grown audio-hunting prowess in what is

High quality experimental Hip Hop beats are a speciality for Hominidae and the instrumental opener from his second EP – ‘Abundance’ is no exception. Tribalistic powerful drums force this track into your ears while scintillating arpeggios glisten energetically above them.

Vocalist - Scha fronts this absorbing mellow cut – ‘Together’ which has a distinctly Asian flavour to it with pan pipes and gamelan style instrumentation flitting in and out of focus between the dreamy synth pads. The hopeful vocals drift easily over the haze in a gorgeously balanced track by Pamina.

Tsaik return with one of their more abstract pieces – ‘DUI’ taken from their Lemon album. At Opening with minimalist percussion using space and silence very effectively, the track evolves into a space-age synth-fest before a robotic vocal rapper spits some tight verses in to finish off an intriguing track.

A true piece of ambient beauty gloriously closes the compilation out with Holly x VVV – C4C8E3. Weaving textural and emotive sonics over a steady unwavering beat to great effect. Calming and subtle it’s the perfect way to finish the record and also lay out the sheer depth and breadth of content this label has to offer.
